Forbes is very much a sporting community with a wide array on offer. The greatest ever Commonwealth Games medal winner Phil Adams was born and bred and still resides in the Forbes Shire. At every opportunity, Adams is seen promoting his town and sport of pistol shooting as he competes around the world.  

Sport is a vital part of the fabric of this community and there is a large variety of recreational and sporting facilities and activities available.

Phillip Adams is the Commonwealth's greatest medal winner in Commonwealth Games having won a total of eighteen medals at six Commonwealth Games. His feats in sport pistol shooting are recognised world wide. He also represented Australia at four Olympic Games and two World Championships. Recently Forbes Shire Council presented Phillip with the "Keys to the town of Forbes", an honour never before awarded.

Forbes hosted the 1998 World Hangliding Championships bringing 200 International competitors to the town for 12 days of competition. Each January the Forbes Flatlands attracts similar numbers to their competition.

The Forbes Olympic Pool is one facility that is regularly used for training and recreational from October to Easter. Regular competition takes place each Friday night at time trials whilst a carnival involving regional competitors is staged each November.
